Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Pollination Bags & Duraweb® Material

Are your pollination bags UV stable?
Yes, both duraweb® and our window material are designed to be UV stable for long-term outdoor use. Durability in strong sunlight is supported by both field and laboratory testing, ensuring reliable performance in tropical growing conditions, research environments and commercial crop applications.

How much light passes through duraweb® mesh material?
30–40% of visible light across all frequencies is transmitted through the duraweb® pollination mesh. This level of controlled light transmission supports plant health while maintaining effective containment.

What is the pore size of duraweb® mesh?
The average pore size is approximately 10 microns, making it suitable for pollen containment, insect exclusion and controlled pollination applications. The 10-micron mesh specification also allows airflow while maintaining structural integrity.

Can you manufacture custom pollination bags or pollination tents?
Yes. By using our in-depth product design experience, we can work with you to develop a bespoke pollination bag or containment tent that fulfils your needs. Customisation may have cost implications depending on specification, size and order volume.

Are your pollination bags reusable?
Many customers do reuse our bags over several growing seasons. They can be sterilised or autoclaved where appropriate. We do not recommend reuse for abrasive or spiky plants such as oil palm, as this may compromise material integrity and containment performance.

Do you supply pollination bags internationally?
We provide a personal service and deal directly with customers worldwide, supplying research institutions, breeding programmes and commercial agriculture businesses. We also have distributors in Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia.

What are your manufacturing lead times?
Our manufacturing lead time is 4–6 weeks, depending on quantity and shipping method. Let us know when you need them and we can plan appropriately, allowing for shipping time. For enquiries please email us enquiries@pbsinternational.co.uk and we will be happy to help.

How do you ship your pollination products worldwide?
We ship globally from the UK using trusted international courier and freight partners.
Shipping options include:
• Road freight
• Air freight
• Sea freight
The most suitable method will depend on order size, destination and required delivery timeframe.

Are your pollination bags suitable for tropical climates, such as those in Indonesia and Malaysia?
Yes. Our UV-stable duraweb® pollination bags are specifically engineered for high heat, humidity and intense sunlight, making them ideal for tropical agricultural regions including Indonesia and Malaysia.
Field and laboratory testing confirm durability in:
• Oil palm plantations
• Hybrid seed programmes
• Tropical breeding environments

Are your pollination bags used for oil palm pollination in Southeast Asia?
Yes. Our 10-micron duraweb® mesh bags are widely used in oil palm breeding and controlled pollination programmes across Southeast Asia.
The material provides:
• Effective pollen containment
• Insect exclusion
• Airflow in high-humidity climates
Please note: For oil palm applications, reuse is not recommended due to the abrasive nature of the plant.

How much light passes through duraweb® mesh in tropical growing conditions?`
Approximately 30–40% of visible light across all frequencies is transmitted through duraweb® mesh. This level of light transmission supports plant development while maintaining effective containment in equatorial and tropical regions such as:
• Indonesia
• Malaysia
• Colombia

What is the pore size of duraweb® mesh for tropical crop containment?
The average pore size is 10 microns, making it suitable for:
• Oil palm pollen containment
• Hybrid seed production
• Research crop isolation
• Tropical insect exclusion
The 10-micron specification ensures performance in high humidity without compromising airflow.

Do you supply pollination bags directly to Indonesia, Malaysia and Colombia?
Yes. We supply pollination bags and pollination tents directly worldwide, including:
• Indonesia
• Malaysia
• Colombia
We also work with regional distributors in these countries to ensure efficient delivery and local support.

What are your lead times for Southeast Asia and South America?
Manufacturing lead time is typically 4–6 weeks, depending on order quantity.
Shipping times vary by region:
• Indonesia & Malaysia: typically, 1–3 weeks (air freight)
• Colombia: typically, 1–2 weeks (air freight)
Sea freight options are available for larger commercial orders.

Do you provide Spanish-language support for Colombian customers?
Yes. We work with customers across Latin America and can support enquiries for pollination bags and containment systems in Colombia and neighbouring regions.
