Hops are grown around the world, and the European Union (EU) alone produces 50,000 tonnes of hops annually. Among the EU countries, Germany accounts for 60% of hop-growing acreage – making it both a European and world leader in hops cultivation and production.
We are proud to support HVG (Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft e.G), a global hops service provider based in Germany, with bespoke pollination control sleeves to support its breeding programme.
In our case study, we talk to Ms. Anna Baum and Dr. Florian Schüll at HVG about their experience of using the PBS International custom design service to protect hops against contamination. We discuss how the initial custom sleeve design has been adapted to better suit HVG’s needs, and how HVG’s hops breeding programme has evolved to meet customer needs since its inception in 2017. We also hear about how the pollination control sleeves not only protect against contamination, but also help the team during harvest time.
